Movin’ on up…North?

Some big news in WoodsieWorld this week… In January, I will be leaving London, packing up and moving up to Yorkshire with my partner!

This has been sort-of planned for some time now. Chris, my partner, is from Huddersfield originally, and always planned to go back there sooner or later. The reason it’s sooner is that, as some of you know, his family’s been having a pretty tough time of it lately. His sister lost her partner in a motorbike accident this summer, and has been taking care of her son ever since, who was in the same crash and very badly injured. Chris really wants to be nearer his family – he’s found it really difficult being so far away from them with all this going on – so we figured that since we’d always planned to move up there anyway, we might as well do it now.

I’m able to announce this now because I was just offered a job in Leeds, which I have accepted, so it’s all official and we can actually make plans to move! I’ve been offered a position as Information Adviser with law firm Addleshaw Goddard – something I’m very excited about, it sounds like an interesting role and a great firm to work for.

I officially handed in my notice today, which was horrible – always hated resigning from jobs, it’s like breaking up with someone. Will really miss my colleagues here – they’re a great bunch, and it’s been a fab place to work.

I’m sad to be leaving London too, of course. As well as my co-workers, I’ll also miss all the other great friends I’ve made since I first moved to London 3 years ago. Looking forward to getting to know a few more of you Northern librarians a bit better though!

I’m really excited about this move, both job- and location-wise, but pretty scared at the same time. Scared in a good way though. I know it’ll be a big change, and I am nervous about starting all over again in a new place where I don’t know many people… but then, that’s what I did when I first moved to London, and that worked out great! Plus, I have family in the North, and already know a few people around the area, neither of which was the case when I came to London.

So, here’s to an exciting 2011!
