Library Day in the Life Round 5: Tuesday

I am taking part in the Library Day in the Life this week. I am currently working as an information assistant at a London law firm. As I’ve taken part in the project twice before, I’ve decided that rather than write a full account of each day (which gets rather repetitive), I’m going to pick out highlights, low points and interesting things from each day. I’m also tweeting my day in the life at @woodsiegirl.

Tuesday was a definite improvement on Monday! Day followed my standard pattern: current awareness in the morning, enquiry shift in the afternoon.

Good things:

  • Bought milk and bread last night, so had tea and toast this morning! Made the whole day just so much better than yesterday 🙂
  • Finished the current awareness alerts early, and the enquiry shift was really quiet, so I managed to tick a grand total of three things off my to-do list. Three!

Bad things:

  • Overslept again, another bad night’s sleep. Managed to make it in to work on time though.
  • Came second in the pub quiz we went to after work. Boo! Honestly, we have a team containing four librarians and a lawyer – we should win every time!

Annoying thing:

  • The Alanis Morissette earworm I’ve had all day. My partner mentioned something about hospital visiting hours last night, and I’ve had “Not the Doctor” in my head ever since. Didn’t mind at first – it’s a good song, and one I’d not heard for years – but I’m getting a bit bored of it now!

CPD things:

  • Nearly finished my Information Outlook article, thanks to my quiet afternoon!
  • Submitted mine and thewikiman‘s Echo Chamber presentation to someone from the SLA Europe events committee for consideration for a possible SLA Europe event – and they loved it! Hopefully going to be organising something for the autumn, so watch this space 🙂
  • Also putting together a proposal with thewikiman for a chapter in an anthology on the echo chamber problem, which would be amazingly exciting if accepted! Details are here, if anyone else is interested in submitting something – looks like a great opportunity.
